Dental Implants Hold Restorations Securely in Place

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants can provide life-changing benefits. Dr. Robert Rebert, Jr. places and restores dental implants at his Metairie, LA, office. Dental implants are titanium posts that are implanted in the jawbone to replace lost tooth roots and provide the ultimate support for crowns, bridges, or dentures. Our practice is a one-stop shop for implant dentistry, making the treatment process as convenient as possible for our patients. To schedule your dental implant consultation, contact us today.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

It is well-known that dental implants are the best solution for keeping dentures and other restorations firmly in place, preventing them from slipping when eating or speaking. But they provide other very important benefits as well.

If a patient loses a tooth, the body will begin to resorb the surrounding bone tissue. As a result, the jawbone begins to atrophy, or shrink. Implants are the only restorative solution that can halt jaw atrophy. Meanwhile, patients who wear traditional dentures must often have their dentures relined to address a loose or uncomfortable fit as the jaw continues to shrink. With implant-supported dentures, you may never need a refitting, and you can enjoy the ability to bite into a juicy steak, deliver a speech, or have a lively conversation with your friends without worrying that your dentures will slip out of place.

Am I a Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for dental implants if you:

  • Are missing one or more teeth.
  • Have healthy teeth and gums. If you are experiencing tooth decay or gum disease, this must be treated prior to dental implant placement.
  • Currently wear partials or full dentures.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Have adequate bone tissue. If you have suffered mild jaw atrophy, you may qualify for mini dental implants. More advanced bone atrophy may require bone grafting, a process of augmenting the jaw with donor tissue. Dr. Rebert can perform bone grafting in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a process of using your own growth factors to expedite healing.

The Dental Implant Procedure

Dr. Rebert is a credentialed member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). Dr. Rebert can plan and perform every step of your dental implants treatment under one roof, with no need for referrals to other practices. To begin the treatment process, he will use our in-office CT scan technology to determine your candidacy and plan your dental implant surgery. He will also determine if mini or traditional implants should be placed. Generally, if you are addressing a missing tooth right away, we will recommend a traditional implant. A mini implant can often accommodate patients who have experienced a small degree of jaw atrophy.

Placement requires two surgeries. During the first, the implants are placed in the jaw. Over a period of four to six months, the implants become fused with the jaw in a process called osseointegration. During this time, we can provide a temporary restoration. Once the jaw and implants have integrated, you will undergo a second surgery. Dr. Rebert will attach abutment pieces to the implants, which will remain exposed above the gumline and connect directly to your restorations. Once the gums have healed, we can begin the process of creating your permanent restoration.
